Aldersgate’s Compass Learning Computer Lab now allows an entire class to work on Compass Learning.  We are in need of volunteers in the afternoons, 3:30 until 5:00 pm each day.  The children also need help with homework.  Mary Jo Jackson will be leading training sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 2:30 pm.

HAWKINS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PARTNERSHIP through our partnership with our neighboring school, Hawkins Elementary, we sponsor pizza parties for honor roll students as part of an incentive program.   This is a great opportunity to encourage these students to do their best academically.  We normally need folks to help on a Friday at the end of a nine week period between 1:15 and 3:00pm.  Watch for the next incentive party!

STOP HUNGER NOW PACKING EVENT – Twice a year Main Street UMC raises the funds to pack 20,000 for this international organization dedicated to eliminating hunger in our life-time.  Stop Hunger was ready to send 1 million meals immediately in the wake of the recent typhoon in the Philippines.  Watch for our next Sunday packing event.  Set up and the first shift will begin after Fellowship Worship; the second shift will start after the 11:00am Worship service. Our goal is to pack 20,000 meals!

CHRISTMAS CARDS NEEDED FOR STATE PRISON Rev. Smeltzer, Chaplain at the State Prison in Leakesville, is requested donations of boxed Christmas cards to be used by inmates to send to their families and friends.  Many Main Street members participated.  Watch for this opportunity again next fall.

Help stock the pantry at Edwards Street!   There is always a little red wagon or two parked outside the elevator entrance area.  Any canned food items placed in these wagons will be delivered to Edward’s Street mission.  Several times a year we sponsor a food drive and ask for particular items such as peanut butter, canned soups, pasta sauces, pasta mixes, and other needed items.  You may participate in this opportunity at any time!

HELP RESTOCK THE FREEZER! The church freezer has been sharing food all summer with grieving families, shut ins, and families with new babies.  As usual we always need potato and vegetable casseroles as well as meat. Large and small are always needed.  Also breads and desserts.  Just be sure to wrap food really well and label cooking instructions!  This ministry is coordinated by  Shannon Wiggins

USM Wesley Foundation Luncheon  Twice a year Main Street UMC will serve lunch to approximately 120 students at the USM Wesley Foundation.    Watch for the next date!

THANKSGIVING BASKETS FOR ALDERSGATE FAMILIES Each year we work together to help some families at Briarfield enjoy a Thanksgiving meal! Usually we collect donations to provide Thanksgiving baskets for about 40 families and each basket costs $45.

Trek & Treat 5K and Fall Festival Our annual Trek & Treat 5K and Fall Festival benefited  Main Street UMC Preschool. We had BINGO, Cake Walk, Carnival Games, Hot Dogs, Pony Rides, Petting Zoo, Costume Contest, Face Painting, and so much more!  This event is tentatively set for October of 2015, there will be many opportunities to serve!
