Serving Opportunity Aldersgate Mission

The Summer Program at Aldersgat e will begin in a few weeks and we
need your help! We need assistance with our Summer Reading Program
from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Monday through Friday, and chaperones for
several field trips that we have planned.
Why is the Reading Program so important? Through the Compass Learning
Program, the children at Aldersgate are attaining the skills that are important
for their success in school. The 5 essential skills we will work on this
summer are: phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, reading comprehension
and fluency. Come join us at Aldersgate to “Take a Mind Vacation”
through reading. If you have any questions, please contact Rev. Linda Dixon
or Mary Jo Jackson. Any time you can give will be greatly appreciated!

We Are so blessed by Kathryn Cooper
My family and I have been members of Main Street for only two years but it has been so wonderful to see you embrace my children, John and I into this church family. This summer, our daughters, Sarah and Rebekah will be a part of the youth mission trip to Ecuador.
We were so blessed the Main Street family supported the youth program with the Crawfish Boil, youth labor auction, and live auction with such participation. You came out in masses to support our youth missions both here and to Ecuador. I am so appreciative to you for taking your time and finances to show our youth how important they are to you. Without your support many of the ideas and dreams the youth program and Jeremy have would stay just that, ideas and dreams.
Please continue to keep our youth in your prayers as they prepare themselves for Ecuador as well as mission trips both here and in the U.S. May they show the love of Christ by being His hands and feet.

Pastor’s Blog Rev. Vicki Loflin Johnson

Dear Main Street Family and Friends,

On Thursday I received word from our District Superintendent, Rev. Cynthia Cross, that Main Street UMC has been selected as the 2015 Vital Congregation for the Hattiesburg District. Our church will be recognized and receive this award at the “Glory Sightings” banquet sponsored by the Methodist Hour on Wednesday night, June 3, at the beginning of Annual Conference.

Congratulations to all of you! This award affirms vitality for our church in mission outreach, age level ministries with children, youth, young adults, and older adults as well as financial stewardship. As we receive it, I want to express my deep appreciation for our full-time staff ministry team including Todd Watson, Linda Dixon, Ed Walker, Maria Askea, Jeremy Knight, Mary Jo Jackson , Mickye Kizer, Patty Robinson, and Donna Runnels.

The Main Street Vision Team has been meeting regularly for nine months for prayer, bible study, and discernment, asking what is next for Main Street UMC. Currently, our church mission statement is to “make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world”. Our current vision states that we are invited to
1. Grow in Faith through the means of Grace
2. Practice honest, compassionate community
3. Serve as the Hands and Feet of Christ in the World

As Main Street transitions to new leadership in June, the vision team needs your help and wants your input on how you connect and resonate with the current vision.

This Sunday you will receive a simple survey consisting of 5 questions. Please take a few moments to complete and return it by Monday, May 11 so that the Vision Team can process your feedback at their final spring meeting on May 12.

Thank you for your faithful and consistent witness to the love of Jesus Christ in our community and in our world. Please be in prayer about where God is leading our church in the future!

Still walking with you, Vicki
